How The Gym Can Grow Your Business

As I’ve become busier and busier in my business, I have been spending less time at the gym and more time at my computer. I don’t need to tell you what happens to your body when you are sitting in your chair for extended periods of time each day without exercising. I planned on going to gym in early December but between working, holiday parties, and family gatherings it just didn’t happen. In fact the problem compounded with all the food, desserts, and drinks at each party. Between December 1st and December 31st, I gained an additional 8 pounds. One thing I notice about myself when I don’t exercise is it affects my mood. It also stifles my creative juices. Sometimes when you’re in a funk you can’t recognize the funk until your out of it. I noticed this when I restarted my gym routine on the second day of the new year. After 1 hour of exercise, I felt more energized than I had during any day in December. My mind was clearer, my thoughts positive, and great new marketing ideas were seemingly coming out of nowhere. Will the gym have quantifiable results for my business or my job you ask? Well, according to Dr. I-Min Lee, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, the answer is yes. Dr. Lee has been studying the effects of exercise and says that research shows exercising eases stress and improves mood, helping people to be more effective at their job.
Take a minute to imagine yourself exercising each day. How would you feel? How would customers, co-workers, or vendors feel around you? How would your business improve? Its proven that exercising increases mental acuity. Don’t make excuses about not being able to find the time to work out. Exercising 30-60 minutes per day will significantly increase the quality and quantity of your work. If you want to grow your business or experience success in your job, the first step for you might be going to the gym. Getting yourself back to the gym after a long hiatus is no easy task, but your addiction to the endorphins created from a good workout will be the reason you come back.
